Thursday, May 03 2012 @ 04:52 AM MST
Of all the family-friendly events one can choose to participate in throughout the warmer months of the year, almost none is more popular than air shows. An estimated 20 million spectators will attend air shows throughout the country this year, a number that is second only to crowds attending big league baseball games. The chance to enjoy the sights, sounds, great weather (hopefully), and time away from home with the family is a no-brainer for most, and with the 2012 air show season now underway show organizers expect to see record breaking crowds this year.

Thursday, May 03 2012 @ 03:08 AM MST
KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FL - Just 3 weeks after space shuttle Discovery left Florida for the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, sister orbiter Endeavour is readying for one final power up this week - an event which, when the plug is pulled, will mark the final power down of NASA's space shuttle program.
Visit the flight deck of space shuttle Endeavour, powered up, with Rene Arriens - one of the many unsung heroes of the shuttle program. Rene spent the last 30 years working on the STS program in various capacities; spacecraft operator, pad technician, and was even a member of the close-out crew who helped board the astronauts on the shuttle before their historic flights.
