spcae shutel Discovery spcewalk and docking JOHNSON SPACE CENTER, TX - During a grueling 7 and a half hour spacewalk, Discovery Mission Specialists Rick Mastracchio and Clayton Anderson successfully installed a 1,700-pound ammonia tank on the International Space Station, completing the second of a three-spacewalk coolant tank replacement process that began with the mission's first EVA Friday morning.

  Astronauts Complete First Spacewalk Of STS-131  Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version 

spcae shutel Discovery spcewalk and docking JOHNSON SPACE CENTER, TX - Astronauts Richard Mastracchio and Clayton Anderson stepped outside the International Space Station today on the first of three spacewalks scheduled for STS-131. The astronauts completed all the major tasks for the EVA, the primary objective being the removal of a new ammonia coolant tank from Discovery's payload bay and relocation to a temporary storage location on the space station from where it will be permanently installed during a later spacewalk.

  Shuttle Discovery Docks With Space Station After Radar Failure  Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version 

spcae shutel Discovery spcewalk and docking JOHNSON SPACE CENTER, TX - Undeterred by a failed radar system aboard space shuttle Discovery, commander Alan Poindexter gingerly guided the spaceship through a flawless rendezvous and docking with the International Space Station today. Discovery docked with the station's Harmony module at 3:44 a.n. EDT as the two craft sailed 220 miles above the Caribbean Ocean.

Space shuttle Discovery lifts off on STS-131 NASA flight controllers are optimistic that the failure of space shuttle Discover's Ku-band communications system will not prevent NASA from accomplishing all the goals for STS-131, despite the fact that real-time video and high-speed data communication with the shuttle has been effectively crippled for the duration of the mission.

Space shuttle Discovery lifts off on STS-131 Bringing an early sunrise to the Space Coast, space shuttle Discovery blazed a trail into space early this morning to begin a thirteen day mission to outfit the International Space Station with new science equipment, supplies and perform maintenance on the 11 year-old orbital complex. Discovery's penultimate mission sets in motion the final push to complete assembly of the space station and retire the orbiter's by the end of the year.

The first phase of man's active exploration of the Moon came to an end with the Apollo 17 mission. Commander Eugene Cernan and Lunar Module Pilot Harrison Schmitt, also a professional geologist, engaged in three moon walks for a total of 22 hours and 2 minutes.
